Witwatersrand Lodge is an English Constitution Freemasons Lodge in Johannesburg, South Africa. This web-site has been designed to provide a brief and general insight into Masonry to non-masons and as an introduction to WITWATERSRAND LODGE No. 3745 to fellow Masons throughout the world.Freemasonry is a fraternal organisation; Freemasons practise Charity and promote truth, honesty and fairness. Alchemy Lodge is a Masonic Lodge, number 7956 in the English Constitution. Its founding objective in 1964 was to establish a Freemasons Lodge of which the membership would be composed mainly of Pharmacists but did not preclude membership from other professions.

Golden West Lodge

Golden West Lodge, No. 6689 is a Freemasons’ Jubilee Memorial, Heritage Award and Universities Scheme Lodge as part of the District Grand Lodge of South Africa North (DGLSA) under the United Grand Lodge of England (UGLE). We meet at the Masonic Center, The Willows in Pretoria, South Africa. Golden West Lodge falls under the Universities Scheme which is aimed at attracting students into Freemasonry. Hillbrow Lodge (3046 EC) was one of several lodges formed in Johannesburg following the resumption of normal masonic activities after the South African War. The membership was drawn from the general community and was slowly built up until, in the 1930s, the Lodge was exceptionally strong and well supported. This was to continue into the 1960s. Membership declined steadily through the past ten years, however, this has halted and membership is currently increasing rapidly.

Over the years the Lodge has had a number of brethren who made substantial contributions to Freemasonry in the Transvaal, including three Grand officers in W Bro Teddy Kiesner (WM 1918/9), Harold Cohen (WM 1938/9) also of Protea Lodge, and Simon Kirschner (WM 1958/9) and secretary for a number of years before emigrating to Australia.

Lyceum Lodge of Research No. 8682 is a Freemasons' Lodge under the United Grand Lodge of England. We meet at Freemasons Hall, Parktown, Johannesburg, South Africa. The Lodge was formed on the 1st of December 1975. Most of our meetings are around the presentation of papers and lectures, some of which are available for download on this site. We receive many visitors to our meetings from other Lodges and many meetings are open to non-Masons.

We also present three different seminars, each twice a year, which are aimed at those who are interested in becoming Freemasons, those who have recently become Freemasons and those who will become Masters of their own Lodges in the near future. These seminars are important for the future of Freemasonry in that they are aimed at encouraging those who will be potentially suitable members to be come such and for them to then get the most out of their membership.

President Lodge, No. 8053 is a Freemasons' Lodge under the United Grand Lodge of England. We meet at Freemasons Hall, Park Lane, Johannesburg, South Africa. President Lodge falls under the Universities Scheme which is aimed at attracting students into Freemasonry. In welcoming you to this, the website of The Prosperity Lodge No 2607 EC (2607th English Constitution Lodge of Freemasons, presided over by the Grand Master, HRH the Duke of Kent from the Grand Lodge in London) within the Johannesburg South Africa region, may I first say that it is an honour and  privilege to be able to address to you all this note of greeting.

It is not an easy task to render a specific introduction but suffice it to say that Freemasonry is an organisation of men who strive to live by the fundamental principles of truth, morality and brotherly love. It is a non-profit organisation and supports charity and community service.

It unifies men of high ideals regardless of their colour, creed or worldly status.
 
Prosperity Lodge, of which I am the current Master has been in existence for over a hundred years nurturing many generations of Freemasons; it is  a strong and vibrant entity and boasts as its members individuals from all walks of life and from diverse cultures and religions.

It is not necessary for me to delve any further into what Freemasonry is or for what it stands as these fields are well covered under the various headings available on this website - Such as How to become a Freemason, etc.


Suffice it to say that, as the Master of the lodge (and there is always a new master installed after every year) I find great solace, enjoyment and a deep sense of fulfilment  in meeting my fellow members of the lodge; we stand under our banner of friendship and mutual respect united in a common bond of friendship, camaraderie and a bond which is universal.

We strive to serve our lodge, our community and mankind in general.

I sincerely trust you will enjoy this website and find it informative and maybe, one day, some readers will come to enjoy the depth and majesty which is Freemasonry and all it epitomises
